Another Day

Sunny and hot out. Still getting myself together for another day. Nothing really planned for today. I've had some coffee and a bagel for breakfast. Maybe I'll go to Borders for a bit as Tuesday is new book/ music day.
There is an open mike jazz event at Tate's in downtown Winston this evening that I might go to. It's from 8 to 10 pm. Glad to hear there is some jazz going on downtown again as it's been a while. Now if we could just get a blues place opened up.

Which, of course, leads to a Frustrating Monday

Just not a good day over all. Work, home alone, dinner, reading, bed. Dealing with relatives, friends, people I don't even know.
At times, I think my life could be summed up as one of frustration.

It was a good Sunday

Woke up early to make breakfast before running off to Raleigh. The drive to Raleigh was pretty easy, though there did seem to be a number of State Troopers out catching speeders (though I remain uncaught). Thanks to my semi trusty TomTom, I got to the center about 15 minutes before it was time for meditation.
I was there till about 1pm. There was a pot luck that I didn't know about after the teaching. Apparently they do this every last Sunday of the month. Interesting combination of foods. Spoke with the woman who is in charge of membership and I signed up. I did mention that I lived about an hour ad a half away, so I hope they don't expect me there for ALL the events they have planned.
Left for home, stopped for brunch. Hung around Greensboro for a bit and watched a movie with Eddie Huffman. Got back home, did some laundry, read a bit. That was my Sunday. Not too shabby.

The Comedians- Roy Orbison

Only the Lonely- Roy Orbison

From a Black & White night. Elvis Costello in a couple of shots. Years ago, I met Mr. Orbison. I was about 6 or 7. He came to our house one evening. He was in town playing and this was when his career had taken a downturn. I don't remember what, if anything he said to me.

New Mexican Restaurant Downtown!

From the Winston Salem Journal-

Published: February 18, 2010
Downtown Winston-Salem is getting another restaurant on Fourth Street.
A Mexican restaurant is planned for the former Towne Jewelers building at 285 W. Fourth St., Lou Baldwin, the president of Baldwin Commercial Properties, said yesterday.
Baldwin said that AKFP LLC in Winston-Salem recently bought the building from Baldwin Kimel and Williams partnership in Winston-Salem.
"I think that a good, Mexican restaurant on that stretch right there will be an asset to downtown, and there will be a lot of folks that will be excited to have that," Baldwin said.
The new owners could not be reached for comment, but Baldwin, who previously managed the 4,400-square-foot building and handled its sale, said he expects renovations to start soon.
Towne Jewelers moved out of the building in 2003.

Walking on Saturday

Going to walk Salem Lake Saturday morning. It's seven miles and is mostly shaded right next to the lake. Should be a nice day for it. It takes about four hours for the whole thing and isn't very far away. Other than that, no fixed plans for the weekend.

It's A Long Week

Long hot week. Too hot for June. Looking forward to a little relaxation during the weekend. Not sure what I'll be doing for most of the weekend. I have some friends coming by on Sunday for about half the day. One thing for sure, I'll be sleeping in Sunday morning.

Mid Week in the City

Yes, it's midweek and I am STILL fighting this cold. If I could just shake the cough, I'd be fine. Ah, well. Looking forward to the weekend. Not sure if I'm going out of town or hanging around Winston. Lots I'd like to do in Winston this weekend, but I am eager to get to the Creeper Trail.

India Festival in Winston Salem

Yes, going downtown for a bit to check out the India Festival. It starts about noon so that's as good a time as any to get down there. I'll be taking my camera and hope to have some pix up tomorrow after I get back.

Meeting with Steve Niles

Met Mr. Niles at Ssalefish Comics. He's the author of 30 Days of Night and has more books coming out. Very nice guy and I wish him the best.

Still Sick

Yes, I haven't been out much. Managed to get a nasty cold and now I've lost my voice. Hoping I'll be well for the weekend. Time will tell.
