Jan 30th 2010 Snow

Went out to clean off the car and to take some pictures of the snow earlier today. Lots of cars spinning their wheels trying to get up the street. Me? I'm in for the day.

DEVO Live Washington DC Poster

I had no idea this poster was available at the show. Hopefully, they'll make it available at ClubDevo.

Snow!

Yep, we got snow. Looks to be about 7 inches out front of my place. I'm staying home today, though I may go out and take some pictures. Right now I'm hearing sleet hitting the window. It's really coming down pretty hard. Well, it's a good day to stay in, get some reading done and relax.

Dinner at Rana

Had dinner at Rana Loca Wednesday evening before the movie at A/perture Cinema. The food was good and I encourage everyone to give it a try. The place looks great (this was taken at about 6pm) and the service was good as well.

Howard Zinn Dead at 87

Howard Zinn, an author, teacher and political activist whose leftist "A People's History of the United States" became a million-selling alternative to mainstream texts and a favorite of such celebrities as Bruce Springsteen and Ben Affleck, died Wednesday. He was 87.

Published in 1980 with little promotion and a first printing of 5,000, "A People's History" was – fittingly – a people's best-seller, attracting a wide audience through word of mouth and reaching 1 million sales in 2003. Although Zinn was writing for a general readership, his book was taught in high schools and colleges throughout the country, and numerous companion editions were published, including "Voices of a People's History," a volume for young people and a graphic novel

One of Zinn's last public writings was a brief essay, published last week in The Nation, about the first year of the Obama administration.

What Do You Want in an Apple Tablet? Survey Says…

Well, I hear this thing is going to be around $800 (Apple Tax, anyone?), so I'll be taking a pass on this. Now if it was sub $500, I'd give it a chance...

A Wonderful Day

Well here it is the middle of January and here comes a wonderful, warm, clear skies day. Got off work a few minutes early so I was able to enjoy just a bit of it before night fell. Honestly, this type of day brings tears to my eyes as I think of the coming Spring. A Spring full of hope and opportunity.

A/perture Cinema Opens!

Went to a couple movies opening weekend. Very nice theater with plenty of parking (city parking deck right around the corner). Good (though not great) seats. Would have been nice to have the stadium style seating, but I know it's on a budget that this thing was opened and I happy to have it no matter what. Looking forward to seeing MANY movies there in the future.

Leaves

There are times I would like to stop and take a picture, but can't. I was driving along Silas Creek Pkwy last Saturday morning. It was very cold, but sunny out. I noticed a couple people were working on the grounds of a business. They were blowing these small, hard leaves into the street and off the grounds. It was windy and the wind, as well as the cars, were whipping them around in interesting patterns for a good length of the road. It was quite interesting.

Going Out

Well, it looks to be pretty damn cold tomorrow. I'm determined to take myself out tomorrow night, though. Going to try and catch a movie at the new downtown theater and maybe get a late evening snack somewhere before heading home.
I have the weekend off with really nothing planned. Saturday I may spend doing some shopping. Beyond that...well, like I said, nothing planned.
I am SO looking forward to Spring and warmer weather. Winter is just very depressing.

Jane Wiedlin as Bettie Page

Ok, this has nothing to do with Winston Salem, what's happening with me, politics, movies or whatever....just sayin'...
