Single Brothers Bar

Been down to Single Brothers a couple of times now. It's in a VERY little building on Trade St. Seats just a few, though they do have some outside seating out the back door. Good drinks and a good atmosphere.

Whatever Works

Did a quick road trip to Greensboro today to see "Whatever Works". Excellent film from Woody Allen. Worth the drive. I'd give it a 7 out of 10.

Off on a Tuesday

Well, it's about 10am and I'm sitting here in Brew Nerds having my chai tea latte and listening to Devo, Elvis Costello and more over the store's music system. Just relaxing this morning and having a nice break from work. Getting a hair cut in a bit, then doing some cleaning at home, maybe a movie later.
Went by the post office this morn to mail off a box. I'm standing in line waiting and this woman is standing behind me, close enough for me to hear BOTH sides of the conversation over her cell phone. Arrgh! Back off and put the damn thing away! She just kept talking even when doing her business at the counter! Nation, if you're on your cell phone and you're trying to do business with me....I'm not talking to you 'till you put the damn thing away, period. Just a warning.

Dinner at the New Downtown Thai & Sushi

Well, it was late and I realized that I had not eaten dinner, so I thought I would give Downtown Thai's sushi a try as they had just opened in their new place. Got there about 8:15. Not very busy, just a few others in the place. Service was pretty good. I sat at the bar (see pix above). Took me a minute to realize it was a big screen TV there.
I was going to order sushi. I looked at the menu and...well, the prices. A wee bit higher than I had expected for sushi. Looks like I'll give the sushi a try at lunch sometime. The prices were about $2 higher than most of the other places in town, on average.
So, I settled for the Pad Thai. Eh, not great, not bad just...eh. I finished, paid and was home within an hour.

Short Sunday for me

I had to work for a bit today. Pretty unusual for me on a Sunday, but it's the first time in about three years I've done a Sunday, so I'm not too put off by it. Not wanting to make a habit of it, though.
Pretty nice day today. Some clouds and it might rain in a bit. Not too hot. Overall, a great day.

In Vacation Mode

Yes, I am taking a few days off. No plans really. Just looking for some down time and relaxing. I haven't taken any time off this year, so it's nice to have a few days off. See you around town.

Fourth Street Filling Station

So, this week I tried Fourth Street Filling Station for brunch on Sunday. I went there knowing that I had not liked previous trips for brunch, but it had been a while and I thought I would give them a try.
I'm happy I did. I ordered coffee, blueberry pancakes and a side of bacon. Coffee- good, not great but still good. The waitress even asked if I needed cream before bringing my coffee. The pancakes- great! The blueberries were baked into the pancakes and they were FLUFFY! Finally, a place in Winston that knows how to make a great pancake. The bacon- good. Tasty, crisp, but could have been a bit crisper, still not greasy like some places.
I sat outside and was very pleased. The music outside was nice, the waitress was attentive and the food was very good. I'll be back. Grade- A-

Protesting Foxx

First time at Hanes Mall in a long time. Had to go to protest Virginia Foxx's appearance financed by the Health Care industry, no doubt. Have to give it to them, they had a pretty big turn out (fear and hate will do that). There was about 20 of us protesting their lies and hate.
I'll try to have some pictures up later. Right now I'm listening to Paul Krugman on NPR while I wait on my car at the VW dealership. Happy Mondays.
