My 701st Post and it's all about....

Pilot Mountain. Now, for those of you not in the area, this Mountain is about 20 minutes north of Winston Salem. Just drive north on Hwy 52 and you can't miss it. I've lived in Winston most of my life and don't remember ever going and hiking the darn thing. Well, I took care of that over site this past week. Went early in the morning and it was a great hike. Go, if you haven't.

Sunday Brunch at NoMa

Still searching for a suitable Sunday Brunch after Cat's Corner closed. Thought I would try NoMa Urban Bar and Grill in downtown Winston. Quick thoughts. There was lost of seating downstairs, so why was I taken upstairs? Ordered coffee, got it then realized there was no cream or sugar at the table nor was I asked if I required any. Kind of slim brunch menu. Had the Pancakes and they were...ok. Why can I not find nice fluffy pancakes anywhere. These slim, crunchy at the edges pancakes remind me of the ones at Finnegan's. Still, the coffee was good, the fruit was good and the music was very nice. Overall, I'd give it a C+. Next Sunday I'll try another restaurant in my search for an excellent brunch!

Alice in Wonderland

Lazy

That's my excuse and I'm sticking with it. I've been lazy. Very few posts while I just work, run around and generally do not much of anything these days. Been doing some Facebook and Tweeting. Somehow, it seems less of a struggle to write those than does this. Lazy, Lazy, Lazy.

Dead Kennedy's We've Got a Bigger Problem Now

Man, they we're great. I saw them twice back in the 80s. Played video games with Darren in Raleigh.

Health Care

July 7, 2009, 9:04 am

An unknown country

A correspondent writes in, denouncing my latest column, and says that if things go my way we’ll end up with the government providing health care to everyone, which will “destroy the American way of life.”

Hmm. There’s a country this correspondent — and many others who denounce “socialized medicine” — should look at. It’s a country where there is, indeed, a substantial private health insurance industry, which pays 35 percent of medical bills. But the government pays a larger share — 46 percent. (Most of the rest is out-of-pocket spending.)

The country is called the United States of America.

Brunch and the Bi Weekly Game

Had brunch at Mary's of Course http://tinyurl.com/r2juzu good food, good atmosphere, bad ideas. Seems that they wait WAY too late to open for brunch which causes a line at the doors 30 minutes before they open. A LONG line. When they do open, they seat one group at a time before allowing others in. This is silly. I know it's a small place, but have some seats outside, maybe some coffee going for those waiting and hey... OPEN AT 9 AM!!! The demand is there and that would help the flow of things. Until they do this, I would say don't go to Mary's unless you're willing to wait 30 minutes outside or until 11:30 (when the line dies down).
