So, I was at the Winston Salem, post debate, event for Jim Neal. He looked pretty beat, but was interested in what we thought about the debate. He asked us about what was happening in our lives and just came across as a good guy. He's not taking PAC money (unlike some of his opponents).
If he gets the party nomination, he'll be running for Elizabeth Dole's seat. I shook his hand and wished him good luck as I do believe he's our best chance for beating Dole in the fall.
Personal writings of thoughts, opinions and things I come across while blundering through my life.

RiverRun Closing Night

So, I attended last night's screening of the Phantom of the Opera at the School of the Arts. Well worth the price of admission with the Alloy Orchestra providing live music for this classic silent film. If you missed it, you really missed out. It was interesting sitting so close to the Alloy guys and taking a glance over at what they were doing. Geat way to end the Film Festival and I do hope they come back in the future!

China Down to 12 Days Worth of Coal
CHINA only has enough coal for 12 days of consumption, three days less than a month ago, state media reported Wednesday, sounding the alarm bells over the nation's most important source of energy.
In certain parts of China, such as densely populated Hebei province in the north, reserves are down to less than a week, Xinhua news agency reported, citing the China Electricity Regulatory Commission.
In the period since early March, coal reserves have slumped by 12 per cent to 46.7 million tonnes, according to the commission.
Reasons for the shortage were "multi-dimensional," the commission was quoted as saying, without elaborating.
Demand for coal has risen rapidly since China experienced brown-outs early this decade, motivating a construction frenzy in the power industry, with large numbers of new coal-fired plants emerging across the country.
China counts on coal for about 70 per cent of its energy consumption, a proportion that has stayed almost unchanged for the past nearly three decades despite a skyrocketing rise in demand for power.

Good News from the Obama Camp
Obama is saying that he will review any potential crimes from the Bush White House. Great news, in my opinion. The Bush Crime family needs to be tried for MANY crimes they have committed during the last 8 years. Perhaps even internation war crimes as well. The whole store can be found by clicking the title above.

Winston Salem Warthogs
Had the opportunity to check out a Warthogs game friday night. Great night for a game. Not too hot or cool. The place was packed and the action was good. Had a beer and a hotdog. Loads of fun and I'm looking forward to catching a few more games this year.
FrontLine- Sick Around the World
I caught FrontLine on PBS tonight. Very good show on the Health systems of other countries and what we can learn from them. The countries they used as examples were England, Germany, Tiawan, Japan & Switzerland. We HAVE to dramatically change our system here. It's morally wrong that this system bankrupts people and destroys lives the way it does.

The Creeper Trail
Saturday I spent most of the day in the mountains on "the Creeper Trail". It's a really beautiful area with a fairly easy bike/ horse trail. I did the 17 miles in about four hours (stopping to have lunch, looking and taking my time in general). It was very fun and I'm looking forward to doing it again soon. Click on the title to the post above for a link to more info on the trail.

Back to Work
Well, I took a couple days off this week, just to catch my breath and have some time to unwind from the holidays and all (yes, I haven't had a vacation sense last year). Now, it's time to get back to work and it will be fine. I did some cleaning of the apartment, got outside and did some walking, did a bit of gaming with some friends...so it was a good time. Really looking forward to spring being fully here.
