Olbermann Calls it Right on the Money

I watched this last night and loved it. These criminals need to be in jail, not running the country.

Bush with Foot in Mouth

This guy, he just doesn't get it. The more he talks the more likely Republicans will be swept out of government.

All the Waste

I was watching a report on the aftermath of Katrina. Apparently there are miles of trailers that sit not being used that taxes have paid for. Sitting right next to a chemical plant.
Also, I hear that the administration has oked a group to oversee how money is being spent for clean up down in New Orleans. Of course, the group (whose name, I hate to admit, escapes me) is a company owned by Bush cronies.
Hate to think this, but maybe it would have been better not to try and rebuild the area that was flooded? Let nature have it back.

Taking a Day Off

Yeah, I'm off from work today. Slept late and just got back from lunch down at West End Cafe. Gotta run take my grandmother to the doctor today, but other than that, nothing I really have to do. Just a hot lazy day for me.

Cheney's History of Lies....

This is news to me. I guess I just wasn't as "up" on what was happening around me back then. This entire administration should be impeached and tried for War Crimes, IMHO.

Is Bush an Idiot?

OH MY GOD! Scarborough is such a jerk. He says, "Liberals liked to talk about how stupid Ronald Reagan was, and than changed their opinions overnight" Is he seriously trying to compair this clown to Reagan? I may not agree with Reagan's policies but he was well respected around the world. Of course Bush is an idiot. He is also one of the most dangerous people on the planet.

So, I'm running an Anime/ Asian Film night at the Werehouse on Tuesday nights. The first show will be all anime. Episodes of Ranma 1/2 and Samurai Champloo. I'll be starting at 8 (exactly at 8. Not 8:30 or something...). I am hoping a few people show up. You can find more info on it at www.thewerehouse.com The show will be free.

A Mess of a Post

Just have alot I want to post. I was in downtown Winston a couple days ago. Not really doing anything, just getting some lunch. I walked down to Sin coffee shop and sat outside for about half an hour just watching the activity. Deliveries, people headed to who knows where for whatever. I think three people said hello while moving on.
I just got the new Hamell on Trial cd. Songs for Parents who enjoy Drugs. He's talented and I'm lookingf forward to checking it out tonight.
Here is another photo from my Canada trip. I would so like to move to Toronto.....

The Bob Dylan Show

Just got back from the Concert. It was a good time and I was surprised by the quality of the sound system. Good to finally see Junior Brown (though, he was harder to understand than even Dylan) and Jimmy Vaughn. It's a rare thing for such a big name to come thru Winston and I was happy to see that the turn out was good.

Lamont Wins!!!!

Simon Rosenberg, who was a protege of Joe Lieberman and supported his candidacy, offers his post-mortem. I was struck particularly by this:

In this new era, partisanship is a virtue. The conservatives rise to power, and their utter failure to govern responsibly or effectively, requires a new progressive politics of confrontation, not accommodation. This new politics may be uncomfortable to those used to an America governed by Democrats and progressive values, but for our politics and values to triumph progressives must and are learning how to resist "cutting deals," working to "get things done" on terms set by an irresponsible governing majority.

This is not an ideological development in progressive politics, but a pragmatic one. Senator Lieberman never understood this, constantly seeing this discussion through an outdated and inappropriate ideological prism. Of course there is room for someone with Senator Lieberman's view on the War, for example. He was after all endorsed by virtually ever major institution in the Democratic family. There is a growing, and necessary, intolerance, however, of progressive leaders unwilling to take on Bush and his failed government head on - and this was the battleground in this election, whether the Senator understood it or not.

I have great sympathy for those wishing our politics could be more genteel, where both sides could come together to work things out for the common good. But we live in a different time, and our the rising partisanship in the Democratic Party is a necessary, pragmatic and I believe virtuous response to the circumstances we face today at the dawn of the 21st century.

This contrasts quite dramatically with Lieberman's Independent Announcement speech, where he incredulously decried the evils of "partisanship" after six years of enabling the most partisan administration in perhaps our nation's history.

After watching Bush spend his term not just refusing to compromise on a single issue, but declaring his intent via "signing statements" to utterly reject the bills he was signing into law, it strikes me as hilarious to see conservatives and their media enablers decry the rise of the Democratic partisan.

We're here. It's good. And when we have a Republican Party once again willing to compromise, then we can start talking about "bipartisanship".
